Team Canada Ready to Defend Gold in Hockey
- Updated: December 5, 2013
Team Canada has won gold twice since NHL players have been allowed to participate, both from North American venues, but have failed to medal on other continents. With front end talent that is rivaled by none this year, Canada, with the likes of Crosby, Toews, Martin St-Louis, John Tavares, Rick Nash and Ryan Getzlaf, will be strong even without Steven Stamkos who is out with a broken tibia. The blue line of Team Canada is also strong with Duncan Keith, Shea Weber, PK Subban and Drew Doughty as their top two pairings, but the concern is all of them shoot right-handed, which may cause the lines to be mixed up to pair lefties with the stronger righties. Carey Price will, more than likely, get the start between the pipes with Luongo as his back-up, but Roberto Luongo does have a gold medal under his belt and is also ready to pounce on the starting spot. Team Canada, on paper, looks like the best team in the tournament, and will be ready for group B play with Finland, Norway and Austria. If the team comes together as they should, look for them to grab their second straight gold.
