Slovenian Hockey Team Honored To Qualify For Sochi

Slovenia, a country of 2 million people, has qualified for the Sochi Olympics starting in February, and with only two NHL players this is the tournament’s biggest underdog. Slovenia is currently ranked 17th in the world IIHF rankings, so automatic qualification was out of the question. The team had to win their qualifying group, which they did in impressive fashion, winning all 3 games in regulation. Qualifying for the Olympic tournament for the first time is a pretty proud moment for Slovenia, home of one professional team and only 148 senior ice hockey players, but they will have a tough test in pool play facing Russia, USA and Slovakia.
